WEIGHT DETERMINATION USING A MEASURING TAPE Giant trevallies are so impressive that anglers often overestimate their weight. Their weight can also be determined fairly well without using a scale if a tape measure and a calculator are readily available. The following, in practice proven formulas have an accuracy of at least +/- 2 kg. Measurements are taken in centimeters: From the head along to the fork of the caudal fin; then the chest circum-ference GT's 30 kg and above: (Chest circumference x chest circumference x length x 2.74) ÷ 100,000 GT's 40 kg and above: (Chest circumference x chest circumference x length x 2.70) ÷ 100,000 GT's 50 kg and above: (Chest circumference x chest circumference x length x 2.60) ÷ 100,000 © M.
