Distinctive Teeth The 24 cockscomb-shaped teeth in the upper and lower jaws are nearly identical; their serrated edges make them distinctive. The first large tooth tip protects the lower saw area in the shallower part of the tooth from the enormous biting pressure of up to 3 tons per square centimeter. Due to the asymmetrical shape of their teeth, tiger sharks can saw through even the toughest turtle shell by shaking their head. Another distinction compared to that of other sharks is that their snouts do not have a round, but instead an almost rectangular shape. This gives the fish its characteristic appearance.
